History of the Bouncy Castle

• There is an ongoing “disagreement” between the U.S. and England about who invented the first bouncy castle – our research shows that in 1959 John Scurlock of Shreveport, Louisiana experimented with inflatable covers for tennis courts. He noticed his employees jumping on the covers.  University students in England about 1961 designed a bouncy castle for a fundraising event.
• The first inflatable rental company was started by Frances Scurlock in 1968  and in 1976, Frances & John opened the first custom facility for the production & rental of the inflatables
• The first inflatable was called a “Space Pillow” as it was an open top mattress with no sides, in 1967 a pressurized inflatable top was added.
• In 1974 columns were added to release the heat created by the fans which inflated the space pillow & top.
• There are now inflatable slides, obstacle courses, interactive inflatable games which all stemmed from the original invention.
• Bouncy castles have a variety of names including moon bounce, astrojump, moonwalk, jolly jump and spacewalk.  They’ve also been referred to as CIT (Closed Inflatable Trampolines)
• Today bouncy castles are found at birthday parties, festivals, church fairs, malls, school fairs, picnics, fundraisers and Christmas parties!

Dilly & Jorge at MCC Relief Auction

MCC's biggest fundraiser of the year was held at TRADEX for two days of festivities, auctions, food, music, kids stuff and more Friday Sept. 9 & Saturday Sept. 10th.

Dilly the Clown from Click & Clown and Mrs. Click were present to entertain children and adults alike with humour, balloon sculpturing and photography.

Joyful Jorge was there too, getting into mischief.  Trying to ride the bouncy castles for free and bothering Dilly whenever he had the chance.

Festivities continue on Sunday at Emmanuel Mennonite Church for our closing Festival of Praise. All the fun supports MCC’s Generations programs supporting those living with HIV/AIDS. Check out the details here!

Joyful Celebrations Fall Harvest Party

Joyful Jorge figures we should celebrate #Fall and #Harvest by having a indoor party with some of our most favourite inflatable bouncy castles, slides and games.

He also thinks we should have fun food like cotton candy and popcorn at the event along with our glitter tattoo artists.

Of course he (Joyful Jorge) would want to be there too.

The idea is too pick a date and have it indoors for 2 to 4 hours.  There would be a fee per child and for a family which would cover the costs of labour & supplies etc.
